No, this isn't a guide on how to mix drinks. The Omen Threat Meter is another great addon to have when grouping for instances, but it's not needed for solo or PvP fighting. If it starts to get close you may want to switch to a different NPC that the tank is holding better. Most useful for DPS fighters, the Omen Threat Meter will let you know if you're about to overtake the tank on aggro to a specific NPC. This addon is a great addition to any new player's GUI and will really help to make sure you're keeping up to your comrades. Recount will also show specific information such as overall damage, dps, hps, and can even break down what abilities you are using the most. If you are significantly below your comrades, you may need to look into different gear, abilities, or even have a tweak to your character's talents. Not just something to post as bragging rights, the Recount will let you know what kind of damage you're doing in comparison to others. The version available does require an additional pack that will give you the Lich King, Burning Crusade, and Vanilla instances as well. It's fairly customizable and you can edit everything from the position of alerts to their font, color, sounds, etc.

Quite possibly the most useful addon for anyone interested in running instances, the Deadly Boss Mod (DBM for short) will put up alerts when things are about to happen during an instance and will help to keep you alive. This isn't required, but it does make keeping your Addons in order much easier. First off, I think that anyone who plays Warcraft should download a copy of the Curse Client and have an account with Curse so you can keep track of your Addons better.
